SPECIAL LECTURE AND BOOK INAUGURATION AT DECCAN COLLEGE
The Bhagwan Shitalnath Chair for Jain Archaeology, Department of AIHC and Archaeology, Deccan
College Post-Graduate and Research Institute (Deemed to be University), Pune, organized a special
lecture on December 18, 2025.
The lecture, titled "Elements, Embodiment and Environment: The Yoga Connection", was delivered by Prof.
Christopher Key Chapple, Doshi Distinguished Professor of Indic and Comparative Theology and
Founding Director of the Master of Arts in Yoga Studies at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles (USA).
The session was chaired by Prof. Prasad Joshi, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of Deccan College, while Dr.
Shrinetra Pandey, Director, ISJS, served as the Guest of Honour.
On this occasion, two significant volumes were inaugurated:
Investigating Jainism: Visual Art, Text and History, edited by Shrikant Ganvir,
comprising proceedings of the First National Annual Research Seminar on Jain Art, Architecture and
Archaeology held at Deccan College in August 2024.
A Source Book of Yoga Philosophy and Practices, authored by Prof. Christopher Key Chapple.
The event highlighted the intersection of Jain archaeology, philosophy, and yoga studies, enriching academic
discourse at Deccan College.
