OPPORTUNITY FOR JUNIOR SCHOLARS TO JOIN JAIN MANIPRAVALAM PROJECT

The ERC-funded project MIRA: Manipravalam — Insight, Research, and Analysis, hosted by the University of Hamburg in partnership with the École française d’Extrême-Orient (EFEO), invites applications for two full-time junior scholar positions based at EFEO, Pondicherry.

Starting June 2026, these positions (renewable annually until 2031) will focus on textual research, manuscript study, and field-based work in Jain and Shaiva Manipravalam traditions. Applicants should hold or be pursuing a PhD, with strong proficiency in Tamil, Sanskrit, and English.

The project investigates Manipravalam, the Sanskrit–Tamil hybrid literary language that shaped medieval South Indian intellectual and religious traditions. Selected scholars will contribute to critical editions, translations, and digital resources.

Applications, including cover letter, CV, writing sample, and references, must be submitted by April 15, 2026 to administration@efeo-pondicherry.org (cc: erc.projectMIRA@gmail.com)
