On March 23, 2026, the Bhagwan Shitalnath Chair for Jain Archaeology at Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute (Deemed University), Pune, hosted the release of Unearthing Jainism: History, Archaeology and Sacred Traditions of Devagiri (Daulatabad), authored by Mr. Oshin Bamb.
The book was inaugurated by eminent art historian Dr. G. B. Deglurkar, with Dr. Rajashree Mohadikar and ISJS Director Dr. Shrinetra Pandey as special guest and guest of honour. The session was chaired by Prof. Prasad Joshi, Acting Vice-Chancellor, while Prof. Shahida Ansari and Dr. Shrikant Ganvir highlighted the department’s initiatives.
Drawing on archaeological evidence and Jain texts, the monograph reconstructs Devagiri’s Jain sacred landscape within the socio-political and cultural frameworks of medieval Deccan. Speakers praised its interdisciplinary approach and contribution to Jain studies.
The event concluded with Mr. Oshin Bamb sharing his research journey, describing the work as an effort to illuminate Devagiri’s lesser-known Jain heritage. The book is published by Research Press India, New Delhi, in collaboration with Deccan College.
