NEW ACADEMIC OFFERING: ISJS INTRODUCES APABHRAMSA STUDIES IN 2026
The International School for Jain Studies (ISJS) is proud to announce the commencement of its online course on Apabhramsa Language and Grammar in Hindi. This program is designed to provide participants with a structured introduction to Apabhramsa, the transitional linguistic stage between Prakrit and modern Indo Aryan languages, with particular relevance to Jain literature and cultural history.
By offering this program online, ISJS aims to make the study of Apabhramsa accessible to a global audience of scholars, students, and enthusiasts. The initiative reflects ISJS’s commitment to preserving and promoting lesser known but vital aspects of India’s linguistic and cultural heritage.
This specially designed course will introduce participants to the fundamentals of Apabhramsa, including:
Introductory lectures
Vowels and simple consonants
Conjunct consonants
Declensions and conjugations
Numerals and other related topics
The medium of instruction will be Hindi. The course will draw upon the authoritative text
Siddha-Hema-Shabdanushasana by Acharya Hemachandra as its primary reference.
