The ISJS is delighted to share the outstanding achievement of Dr. Shrabani Sarkar, a recipient of the Bhagwan Mahavira Prakrit Fellowship (BMPF, Batch 6), who has successfully cleared the prestigious UGC-NET with Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Prakrit.

The UGC-NET-JRF is a highly competitive national-level examination conducted in two papers – Paper I, which tests general teaching and research aptitude, and Paper II, which assesses subject-specific knowledge. Hundreds of students from across India appear for the examination in Prakrit. In the latest results, only 05 candidates across India qualified for JRF, while 06 candidates qualified for NET in the subject. Dr. Sarkar secured an impressive 82.22222 percentile.

What makes her achievement especially inspiring is the journey she undertook to reach this point. Hailing from Bengal, Dr. Sarkar was relatively new to the world of Sanskrit and Prakrit when she began her studies. She embraced the challenge with remarkable determination, working hard to build her foundation in both languages and even acquiring proficiency in Devanagari, which was new to her at the outset. Her progress reflects not only academic ability but also the discipline, perseverance, and curiosity required to enter a demanding field of classical language and textual studies. From being a newcomer to Sanskrit and Prakrit to becoming one of the very few scholars in the country to qualify for JRF in the subject, her journey is a source of great encouragement to other students pursuing Indian languages and intellectual traditions.
