Over 2,500 years ago, Lord Mahavira, the 24th Jain Tirthankara, attained nirvana (liberation). Since
then, countless great personalities have carried forward his teachings with depth and clarity.
Among them, Shrimad Rajchandraji, a poet-philosopher and spiritual visionary, was born on the full moon night of
Kartika Purnima, V.S. 1924 (9 November 1867), in the port town of Vavania, Gujarat, and stands as a radiant
figure of the late 19th century. His profound grasp of scriptures, impeccable character, and unwavering pursuit
of self-realization left an indelible impression on Mahatma Gandhi, who once remarked:
“I have tried to meet the heads of various faiths, and I must say that no one else has ever made on me the
impression that Raychandbhai made.”
Shrimad Rajchandraji’s guidance, rooted in Jain values, shaped Gandhi’s spiritual outlook and offered a living
example of applied Jain ethics—relevant not only to his time but to ours.
At the International School for Jain Studies (ISJS), we remain deeply committed to advancing this timeless Jain
