The nine-month Bhagwan Mahavira Prakrit Fellowship (BMPF) has successfully completed its first month with five
participants for different parts of India:
Aayush Jain - Damoh, Madhya Pradesh
Sumit Jain - Sagar, Madhya Pradesh
Shrabani Sarkar - Cooch Behar, West Bengal
Avni Saxena - Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh
Nutan Ramchandra Pol - Thane, Maharashtra
These scholars have embarked on their journey into Prakrit studies with Siddha-Hema-Shabdanushasan, a seminal
12th-century Prakrit grammar. They have already been introduced to the Indian language system and many other
introductory topics. They have started sutras of substitution of conjuncts, indeclinable, the declension of words
and conjugation of roots.
As part of this nine-month residential fellowship, the participants will be engaged in rigorous study of
Prakrit, an ancient Indian language which is the medium of Jain canonical literature.
They appeared for their first monthly test on Sunday, October 5, 2025. All participants from different backgrounds
performed according to their best capability. The monthly tests help to evaluate the progress of the participants
and also provide a direction to the teachers for planning future lessons.
ISJS extends its warm wishes to the fellows for a meaningful and transformative academic journey.
