LECTURE ON JAIN STUPA AT MATHURA CONCLUDED AT DECCAN COLLEGE
The lecture titled Archaeology of the Jain Stupa at Mathura: Epigraphy, Engravers and Issues of Patronage
was organized under the Prof. H. D. Sankalia Monthly Lecture Series on Jain Heritage. This was the seventh lecture
in the series.
Dr. Yashvender Dhaka delivered the lecture on May 28, 2025, organized by the Bhagwan Shitalnath Chair for Jain
Archaeology under the Department of AIHC and Archaeology at Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute
(Deemed to be University), Pune. The speaker is an Assistant Professor at the Department of History, Vardhaman
College, Bijnore. Dr. Shrikant Ganvir was the coordinator of the lecture.
The lecture discussed the Jain Stupa and other remains from Mathura’s Kankali Tila that throw light on multiple
facets of contemporary art, architecture, iconography, rituals, patronage, role of women, laity, and monastic
order.
