LECTURE ON APPLICATION OF NONVIOLENCE FOR TOTAL TRANSFORMATION BY DR. VEENA R. HOWARD ON MARCH 24, 2025
The 20th lecture in the online lecture series by ISJS is to be delivered by
Dr. Veena R. Howard on the Application of Nonviolence for Total Transformation
on Monday, March 24, 2025.
Veena R. Howard is Professor of Asian Religious Traditions in the
Dept. of Philosophy at California State University, Fresno. She is a recipient
of the Fulbright-Nehru grant (2024-2025). She also holds the Endowed Chair in
Jain and Hindu Dharma and serves as the director of the M.K. Gandhi Center:
Inner Peace and Sarvodaya.
This session focuses on the broader applications of ahimsa in today's world.
It aims to draw on the research in the areas of social science, political science
and psychology, and emphasizes that nonviolence revolution is needed for total transformation in today's world.
The session will be chaired by Dr. Narendra Parson who is a seasoned anesthesiologist with over
55 years of experience. He served as a Professor at UCLA, managing his private practice until retiring in 2018.
Beyond his medical career, his contribution in Jainology includes art and literature. Additionally, he has given
lectures on how Jain principles relate to the medical field and the health advantages of a vegetarian diet.
