Jain women have played a significant role in preserving and promoting
the principles of Jainism throughout history. They have actively
contributed to spiritual, cultural, and social spheres within the Jain
community. Many Jain women have embraced the path of asceticism,
becoming revered nuns and scholars, dedicating their lives to the
practice and dissemination of Jain teachings. Additionally, as patrons of
art and literature, they have fostered a rich heritage that reflects the
values of non-violence, truth, and self-discipline central to Jain
philosophy. Their legacy exemplifies discipline, leadership, and
unwavering commitment to the enduring principles of Jainism.
In a similar spirit of promoting Jain philosophy and linguistic heritage,
the International School for Jain Studies ‘ISJS’ is delighted to introduce
an online Apabhramsa course for Hindi speakers, aimed at enriching
knowledge of India’s linguistic and literary heritage. Following this, the
20th edition of the esteemed International Summer School for Jain
Studies, a five-week residential program starting on June 17, 2025, offers
participants an immersive experience in Jain practices. Furthering its
academic commitment, ISJS continues the Bhagwan Mahavira Prakrit
Fellowship—a nine-month course commencing in September 2025—
centered on Hemachandra’s 12th -century Prakrit grammar, providing a
deep understanding of the language and Jain literature.
