The Department of AIHC and Archaeology at Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute (Deemed to be
University), Pune, successfully concluded the eighth lecture in the Prof. H.D. Sankalia Monthly Lecture
Series on Jain Heritage on June 25, 2025.
Under the auspices of the Bhagwan Shitalnath Chair for Jain Archaeology (funded by ISJS and Vardhamana
Charitable Foundation), the event featured a captivating talk by Dr. Gauri Bedekar on the topic –
Patronage and Spread of Jainism: Archaeological and Epigraphical Evidence.
Held online via Google Meet, the session explored rich material and inscriptional traces that map the
historical journey and cultural proliferation of Jainism across the Indian subcontinent. Attendees from
varied academic and cultural backgrounds engaged in thoughtful discussions, making the evening both
insightful and inspiring.
