FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK

Dear Reader,
Jai Jinendra!

ISJS extends warm greetings for a happy and fulfilling New Year. The arrival of a new year is a moment for reflection-an opportunity to acknowledge our achievements and recognize our shortcomings. While successes inspire confidence, shortcomings remind us of the need for growth, guiding us toward a more purposeful and enriching life. This process of introspection is central to self betterment, encouraging us to cultivate discipline, compassion, and resilience in the year ahead.

Jain acharyas and thinkers have long emphasized timeless ethical values that nurture inner peace and foster social harmony. These principles remain profoundly relevant in contemporary life, offering guidance in navigating challenges with clarity and restraint. Through its academic programs, ISJS has consistently introduced these values and demonstrated their practical applications in modern contexts. As we embark on this new year, may we renew our commitment to ethical living and collective wellbeing, strengthening both personal and social harmony.

During its residential summer program, ISJS offers a rich blend of lectures and interactive group discussions that engage participants in examining contemporary issues through the lens of Jain philosophy. This holistic approach fosters both intellectual inquiry and practical reflection, making the program a dynamic space for dialogue and growth. We are delighted to share that this summer will bring fresh opportunities for deep learning and meaningful engagement, further strengthening the connection between timeless Jain values and modern life.

This issue presents an English article by Dr. Shrinetra Pandey titled Saptavyasanatyag - Ethical Abstinence from Seven Vices for Social Harmony and Peace. The article presents saptavyasanatyag, the Jain principle of abstaining from seven vices, as an ethical guide for personal integrity and social harmony. It shows how these abstinences nurture restraint, compassion, and fidelity while remaining relevant to Jain ideals of non-violence and spiritual progress.

Your participation reinforces our collective dedication to scholarship, ethical reflection, and lasting clarity. ISJS extends warm wishes for a very happy, prosperous New Year filled with inner peace!
