LECTURE DELIVERED ON ACHARYA HARIBHADRA BY PROF. DHARM
CHAND JAIN
On December 13, 2025, ISJS hosted the 25th lecture in its online series on Jainology. The
talk on Acharya Haribhadra's Contribution to Jain Yoga was presented by Prof. Dharm Chand Jain
and chaired by Prof. Jagat Ram Bhattacharyya.
The session was attended by over 50 participants from India and abroad, underscoring the wide
interest in Haribhadrasuri's pioneering role in systematizing Jain yoga. Dr. Jain elaborated on
Haribhadra's classifications, adhyatma yoga, bhavana yoga, dhyana yoga, samata yoga, and
vrittisamkshaya yoga, and emphasized his originality in redefining yoga as a comprehensive
path to emancipation, seamlessly bridging Jain metaphysics with broader Indian traditions.
The lecture offered participants a deeper appreciation of Haribhadra's enduring impact on later Jain
philosophers and the wider Indian knowledge system.
