Jainism focuses on venerating the qualities of an individual that lead him/her to eternal bliss rather than
worshiping any specific being. In Jainism, all venerated beings are classified into five distinct categories:
Arahant, who have triumphed over their passions; Siddha, the liberated souls who have attained perfection;
Acharya, the leaders of the monastic community; Upadhyaya, the teaching monks; and Sadhu, encompassing all Jain
monks. The Namokar Mantra pays homage to all five categories collectively rather than any singular entity, which
is why it holds universal reverence among Jains. Jains from across the globe chanted Namokar Mantra on April 9,
2025, commemorating the day as World Navakar Mahamantra Day.
The International School for Jain Studies ‘ISJS’ actively participated in the global celebration of this
significant day, aligning itself with the worldwide community in honoring its importance. ISJS also extends its
best wishes to you on the 2624th auspicious birth anniversary of the 24th Tirthankara, Bhagwan Mahavira.
As the International Summer School for Jain Studies draws near, the one-month online Apabhramsa course reaches
its pinnacle, and a fresh ISJS publication captures the attention of readers, ISJS thus continue to create a
buzz in the field of Jain studies.
