The five BMPF participants got a chance to study the Brahmi script at
ISJS in their very first month of the program which also includes
inscriptional Prakrit.
Apart from Brahmi, they have studied the declensions of a-ending, i-
ending, u-ending masculine nouns, ā-ending feminine nouns, a-ending
neuter nouns, a-ending masculine pronouns, and numerals, and also
the chapter on treatment of conjuncts in Prakrit with the help of
Siddha-hema-shabdanushasan.
They will start learning the treatment of vowels in Prakrit in October.
Before that, they all are excited to appear for the first monthly test
scheduled on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
The fellows of this residential program will study Prakrit with ISJS for
nine months to gain an in-depth understanding of the ancient Indian
language which is also the chief language of Jain canonical literature.
