ONLINE MONTHLY LECTURE ON THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS OF
WOMEN IN JAINISM ON NOVEMBER 29, 2024
The 17th lecture in the online monthly lecture series by ISJS was delivered by
Mrs Sharmila Oswal on the Socio-Economic Status of Women in Jainism
on November 29, 2024.
Mrs. Oswal is a Board Member of APEDA Millets, Ministry of Commerce,
Government of India, and has held several other significant roles. An Agro
Water Food Security Diplomat from MIT-Harvard, USA, and NUS, Singapore,
Mrs. Oswal founded and led Gudmom and Basillia Organics impacting
thousands of farmers and tribal families.
The lecture discussed the socio-economic status of women which indicates
the development of a community and a nation. She supported her discussion
on the basis of the practice at the time of Rishabhdeva, the first Jain
tirthankara, and compared it with the modern status and scope of women.
More than 50 people attended the lecture and engaged in the stimulating
discussion.
