Bhagwan Mahavir Prakrit Fellowship 2023-24 in the last phase
The fourth Bhagwan Mahavir Prakrit Fellowship 2023-24 organized by ISJS is in its final phase. The four participants – Anahita Hoose (USA), Leonardo Stockler (Brazil), Samyak Modi (India), and Harshit Mishra (India) – are working hard and preparing for their final exam.
To get equipped for the final exam, the participants appeared for monthly tests and class projects. They have completed studying Maharashtri, Shauraseni, Magadhi, Paishachi, and Chulika Paishachi Prakrits, and are currently learning Apabhramsha from Hemachandra’s Siddha-hema-shabdanushasana.
For a better understanding of Prakrit, the parts of texts that were discussed with them include Abhigyan Shakuntalam, Karpuramanjari, Paumachariyam, Dravyasangraha, Bhagavati Aradhana, and Samayasara that helps in understanding the difference in the dialects. The participants also enjoyed translating parts of Ashokan and Kharvel inscriptions.
The final exams are scheduled in the second half of May including a viva voce.
