FROM THE EDITORS'S DESK

Dear Reader,

Jai Jinendra!

India celebrated its unique festival of colours, that signify the dawn of Spring covering the earth with beautiful shades of green and other colours, ripening of the crops and the victory of good over evil. Jains also adopted the festive fervour of Holi from Hinduism according to their traditional emphasis on spiritual purification. This fact is displayed beautifully in a carving at Dilwara temple wherein Lord Krishna had his wives and other female relatives play Holi with the 22nd tirthankara Neminath that led to his marriage with Rajimati which was ultimately not solemnised and led to his renunciation.

Later on, many Jain poets gave the festival of Holi a spiritual colour and tailored its components in accordance with Jain principles. They all generally associate it with the meditating ascetics in the forests to burn out their passions and attachments and increase their cognitive levels to cherish themselves, all the while using exquisite metaphors.

International School for Jain Studies ‘ISJS’ wishes a Happy Spiritual Holi to everyone that was celebrated on March 25, 2024. Please rush to submit your application for our 5-week summer program or other programs as well as submit the books and papers published in 2023 for awards. Details follow.
