Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore receives Center for Jain Studies and Gujarat University gets Center for Jain Manuscriptology
Ministry of Minority Affairs has approved the establishment of the Center for Jain Studies in Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), Indore Campus on March 14, 2004, with a total estimated cost of Rs. 25 Crores.
The project by the university will be undertaken for the preservation and promotion of Jain Heritage, fostering interdisciplinary research in the same, enhancing global understanding of Jainism and its principles and practices, and developing support for community engagement. The project strives for the preservation and conservation of Jain Culture in the form of digitization of Jain Manuscripts, widespread knowledge sharing of Jain traditions, and customs, and promoting inter-disciplinary research on Jain literature.
In another development, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has also approved a Center for Jain Manuscriptology at Gujarat University with a total estimated cost of Rs. 40 Crores. The center aims at academic support for the development of Prakrit and Apabhramsa in the University and facilitates collaboration between the University and the Ministry to enhance educational opportunities for minority communities in India to carry out research in the field of Jain Studies thereby encouraging Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and research programs.
