The group of Summer School by ISJS showed their gratitude at
the Meet and Greet session with the ISJS stalwarts on July 9, 2024.
The ISJS well-wishers encouraged everyone to participate in the
program wholeheartedly and take it ahead to their respective
academic studies.
Moreover, the trip to Kumbhoj Bahubali near Kolhapur stole the
thunder of the program. All the participants enjoyed their visit and
interaction with the Jain monks and observed their routine of going for
food, practicing meditation, etc. The group also visited the Firodia
Institute of Philosophy, Culture, and History – the experience center
created by Amar Prerana Trust.
While the participants are preparing for the presentations due at the
end of the week, they are still in awe of the experience they have
received at different excursions as well as in the lectures and
discussion sessions.
Prof. Peter Mumo, Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies,
University of Kenya, Nairobi expresses his views ~ “During the five weeks, we visited several locations associated with
Jainism. The most exciting was meeting with Digambara monks who
were able to share their experiences in monkhood. We also interacted
with Jain nuns who also gave their insightful experiences. We also
visited the newly constructed Jain Museum where the entire Jainism
and Indian religiosity and culture are illustrated. The entire stay in the
school and India has been marvelous. The lectures, visits to several
Jain sites, vegetarian meals, interactions with students from different
countries, and beautiful environment and climate were wonderful
experiences. I thank all those who contributed in different forms to
make study a reality.”
Dr. Sanjay Shakya, Lecturer, Department of Buddhist Studies, Lumbini
Buddhist University, Nepal says about the program ~ “Initially, when I came to know about this program, being a Buddhist
scholar, I was concerned about studying Jainism for five long weeks. I
can now say that every day I spend here is worth it. Thank you ISJS
for this lifetime experience, for better learning, and for understanding
Jainism as a real-life practice.”
Dr. Sharda Kusum Mishra, PhD, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi
conveys her ideas ~ “I am thankful to Dr. Shrinetra Pandey for inviting and encouraging me
to attend this Summer School and I express my gratefulness to ISJS
for organizing such an extensive program. This course is quite
informative and fruitful as it not only discusses the Jain principles but
also demonstrates the preservation of Jain literature and allows
discussions with Jain saints while closely observing their lives.”
The International Summer School for Jain Studies ‘ISSJS’ is the pilot project of ISJS which completes 19 years in 2024.
