Prof. Sethia founded the Ahimsa Center at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, California, and also served as its director from 2003 to 2022. The program's chief guest, former Member of Parliament Mr. Pradeep Rawat, also discussed his beliefs on nonviolence and stated that the rate of violence is always decreasing.
Dr. Sethia, in her speech, attributed violence to emotions such as depression, greed, arrogance, and sadness. She asserted that in the contemporary context, Ahimsa is the key to the good life, a caring community, a healthy society, and politics leading to the survival of the planet making Gandhi relevant more than ever.
The talk was held in remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi's nonviolent idealism, which was ideally the central theme of India's freedom movement, on the eve of his assassination.
