HALFWAY THROUGH, BMPF 2023–24
The nine-month long Bhagwan Mahavira Prakrit Fellowship program by ISJS for 2023–2024 has completed four and a half months. The four participants from Brazil, the United States, and India, are studying Prakrit grammar in depth. They have covered the chapter on conjuncts, metathesis, the substitution of words and various verbs, declension, conjugation, compound, and combination.
While going through the 12th-century Prakrit grammar text Siddha-hema-shabdanushasan by Hemachandra, the participants learn the sutras with their commentary. They go through the rote method of learning, fun activities and exercises, making sentences, translations from Prakrit to English and English to Prakrit, monthly tests, assignments, and presentations.
This is the fourth batch of BMPF. The participants appear to be sharp and bright in their learning and understanding of the Prakrit language making the ISJS efforts worthwhile.
