FROM THE EDITORS'S DESK

Dear Reader,

Jai Jinendra!

Vasant Panchami holds an important place in Indian culture which fell on February 14, 2024. In Jain tradition, this day is celebrated as the birthday (janma-jayanti) of Acharya Kundakunda. The Jain literary tradition is indebted to Acharya Kundakunda for his contribution to the Jain spiritual tradition and occupies a unique character among the Jain authors. His prominent texts include Samayasar, Pravachansar, Niyamsar, Ashtpahud, and Panchastikay-sangraha where he explains the true nature of reality, identifies the functions of the individual substances and focuses on the soul as ‘self.’ Based on his ideas and language, scholars place him at the beginning of the current era.

The International School for Jain Studies ‘ISJS’ pays homage to Acharya Kundakunda and values his contributions. ISJS is organizing a special lecture by Mr. Philip Wollen on Ahimsa as a special edition of the online monthly lecture series. It also commemorates the 2550th year of Bhagwan Mahavir Nirvana.

ISJS is working round the clock in promoting Jain and Prakrit studies. The 2024 summer programs are announced. The translations of the Prakrit dictionary and Prakrit grammar text are under the process of finalisation. The online journal is out. Let’s keep it up!
