Dreams reveal a great deal about our future. The meaning of dreams and how they are interpreted are important in the Jain tradition. The mothers of the tirthamkaras have the most revered dreams in Jainism. They dream of auspicious objects that foretell the conception of the child tirthamkara and tell the promising traits they will bear that will benefit everyone, like as magnificent as a lion, as inclusive as the ocean, as altruist as Laxmi, and as detached as a lotus in the pond.
Chaitra Krishna Navami is celebrated by the Jains as the Auspicious Birth Event (Janma Kalyanaka) of the first tirthamkara Rishabhadeva which fell on April 3, 2024. The last tirthamkara Mahavira was born on Chaitra Shukla Trayodashi which will be celebrated on April 21, 2024.
As Mahavira was the last tirthamkara, the day of his Auspicious Birth Event is celebrated by every Jain. It brings them all together and reminds them of their lineage as well as their purpose in life. There will be processions, luncheons, musical performances, cultural programs, talks, conferences, seminars, and various other ceremonies to commemorate this occasion.
International School for Jain Studies ‘ISJS’ cherishes the values conveyed by Lord Mahavira and strives to spread them as a nonviolent and pluralistic way of life. ISJS is happy to engage everyone through its Summer Schools, Prakrit Study Programs, special lectures, and Research Journal – all a medium to celebrate Mahavira and Jainism.
