FROM THE EDITORS'S DESK

Dear Reader,

Jai Jinendra!

Jain communities have evolved with time with some legendary shravakas who practiced and propagated Jainism. Shrimad Rajchandra was one such remarkable Jain shravaka who practiced and lived Jain ideals.

Shrimad was born as Laxminandan (later called Raichand) to Ravjibhai Mehta and Devbai on Kartik Sud Purnima in 1867 CE. His father was a businessman in Vavaniya, Gujarat, and wanted his son to learn the prudence of trade. But Raichand, eldest among the siblings, found himself focused on spirituality. His brilliant mind, which could memorize a hundred items at a time due to which he was called a shatavadhani, was completely engrossed in penance and spirituality. He also became the spiritual mentor of Mahatma Gandhi.

He passed away on Chaitra Vad 5 in 1901 CE and left behind a number of followers in awe of his spiritual glory who relish his prayers and letters to the core.

ISJS acknowledges the contribution of such a great proponent of Jain ideals and strives to do the same through its various programs globally.
