A LECTURE ON “UNIVERSE AND LOKA”

Jain Academy of Scholars (JAS) is organising a lecture on “Universe and Loka” by Prof. Narendra Bhandari on May 18, 2021 (Tuesday) at 07:30 pm (IST) through zoom. In this lecture, Prof. Bhandari will summarize the salient features of modern cosmology with a historical perspective so that Jain scholars can try to resolve some of the outstanding questions by taking clues from Jain Agams. Starting with Einstein’s finite and fixed universe, the development leading to Hot Big Bang theory of expanding universe and early inflation will be described.

About Professor Narendra Bhandari
Prof. Narendra Bhandari is a Space scientist. He carried out Research work at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, University of California, San Diego, USA, Physical Research Laboratory of ISRO and Science and Spirituality Research Institute at Ahmedabad. He studied Apollo and Soviet moon samples and chaired ISRO's Planetary Sciences and Exploration program. He made pioneering contributions to India's first missions to Moon- Chandrayaan-1 and Mars Orbiter Mission to Mars.

He served as President of the International Lunar Exploration Working Group. For his contributions to planetary and space sciences, Professor Bhandari has been honoured with several National and International awards, notably ‘Outstanding Achievements Award of ISRO’ for his contributions to Indian space program, Vikram Sarabhai award in Planetary and Space Sciences, National Mineral Award of Government of India and Special Certificate of Recognition by NASA. He has also been decorated with Marwar Ratna Award. Prof. Bhandari received the Life Time Achievement award from Institute of Jainology in 2020. He has published and edited several books on Jain philosophy as also on meteorites and Moon.
