OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH ISJS

ISJS is looking for 2 (two) Research Associates in Philosophy / Religious Studies / History and Culture. Selected candidates will get opportunity to work on research projects in these areas related to Jainism particularly as well as to teach international students and scholars; paper presentation in seminars; to edit and publish the articles in research journal.

FIRST JAIN ACADEMIC CONVENTION AT USA

Department of Religious Studies, University of California, Riverside, USA is organizing First Jain Academic Convention in collaboration with JAINA’s Academic Liaison Committee on November 07, 2020 at 10:00 AM – 03:00 PM (PDT).

This event will feature scholars with Jain-funded academic positions and other Jain studies scholars from North America who will discuss their teaching and research experiences, translation projects, national and international collaborations, and future plans.

BOOK ON SALLEKHANA AVAILABLE ON AMAZON

The book “Sallekhana - The Jain Approach to Dignified Death” edited by Shugan Chand Jain & Christopher Key Chapple and published by D.K. Printworld Pvt. Ltd. is now also available on Amazon India.

This book is a transaction of some selected papers presented in a series of three seminars on Sallekhana that provides a comprehensive discussion on the subject. The book also includes a brief overview of other papers presented in the seminars. Death is an inevitable fact of life. Jain preceptors have offered a system of fasting that makes the time before death an auspicious and pleasant experience, known as Sallekhana, Samadhimarana or Santhara. This practice had been observed ever since Jainism was propagated the founding tirthankaras.

RESEARCH ON JAIN BUSINESS ETHICS

The subject research is in progress with in-depth research and analysis of Jain business leaders and communities, their ethics upto 19th century AD.

We are now collecting and reviewing similar information for the period 20th Century to date. We solicit your support in sharing your experiences and information of Jain business leaders and communities, with references particularly to developments like Stock trading and gems and jewellery business in India and abroad, IT professionals becoming business leaders, industrialists and so on. We will discuss your inputs with you and incorporate these in the final report/book with appropriate mention of your contribution.
