VISIT BY DR. JASVANT MODI
Dr. Jasvant Modi and his family members visited ISJS on 8 January, 2020. Dr. Modi is the main person behind propagation of Academic studies of Jainism in the universities of Jainism in USA. Dr. Modi and his family had received by Dr. Shugan Jain, Chairman of ISJS at Delhi Airport after that they proceed to visit Jain temple in Green Park and Chhoti Dadadbari at South Extension. After visiting the temples they had lunch at Chairman’s house where they had a brief introduction to ISJS. Dr. Jasvant Modi has been sponsoring the Winter Program conducted by ISJS for last 2 years. After visiting ISJS office they left for their visit to Rajasthan.
SUCESSFULLY COMPLETED 2ND WINTER PROGRAM ON JAIN STUDIES
2nd Winter Program on Jain Studies by International School for Jain Studies (ISJS) successfully completed at Preksha Dhyan Academy, Koba. The program began on 28 December, 2019 and ended on 07 January, 2020. There were twenty three participants (Undergraduate students, graduate students, PhD candidates, Professors, and faculty members) from USA, Italy, Zimbabwe, China, Ethiopia and India. Some participants were the renowned scholars of their field such as Dr. Karma Lekhe Tomso, Dr. Kenneth R. Valpey. The participants studied basics of Jainism such as introduction to Jainism, the place of Jainism in Indian Philosophy, Antiquity of Jainism, Metaphysics, fundamental values, daily practices, householder conduct, origin and development of Prakrit language, Jain Yoga, epistemology, Karma Doctrine, Bio Ethics, Sallekhana and their relevance to modern society, Puja and Rituals during this period. The participants visited Sabarmati Ashram and nearby Jain temples on 31 December, 2019. During this period the participants also visited Palitana form 05 – 06 January, 2020.
SUMMER 2020 IN INDIA LEARN & EXPLORE JAINISM
The following programs provides academic and experiential knowledge of Jainism to encourage participants to pursue further studies and research in Jain principles of soul, nonviolence, non-absolutism, non-possession, self-restraint and strenuous efforts in pursuit uplift and relevance in today’s life:
ISSJS.2020-4W (26 June - 24 July, 2020): This intermediate level program is designed for third and fourth year undergraduate students, graduate students, PhD candidates and faculty in Religion, Philosophy, South Asian studies and Anthropology.

RETURN OF ISJS ALUMNI TO LEARN PRAKRIT
Mr. Andrew Bridges, alumni of ISJS from USA, came to enhance his knowledge about Prakrit on 24 Dec, 2019 & studied till 20 Jan, 2020 at Bhogilal Leharchand Institute of Indology, Delhi. During his stay he visited ISJS on 13 Jan, 2020.
ONE YEAR PRAKRIT RESEARCH AND STUDY PROGRAM
Under Bhagwan Mahavira Prakrit Research and Study Program organized by International School for Jain Studies (ISJS) for one year (2019-2020), three scholars namely Mr. Itamar Ramot, PhD candidate (University of Chicago, USA), Ms. Corinne Smith, MA (SOAS, London) and Mr. Anando Ghosh, MA (SOAS, London) doing their studies at Shantiniketan under the guidance of Prof. J.R. Bhattacharyya, the renowned scholar of Prakrit language.
The Scholarship for 2020-2021 is available, last date of application is 15 May, 2020.
