ISJS AND ALC OF JAINA AGREE TO WORK TOGETHER

Academic Liaison Committee (ALC) of Federation of Jain Associations in North America (JAINA) has agreed to promote and support International School for Jain Studies (ISJS) activities in USA and Europe to meet the challenges posed by the exponential growth of academic studies of Jainism in the universities of North America primarily and Europe. ALC will promote the development of relations with universities there for coworking to realize a number of ISJS initiatives; like joint research and education programs, capability building with such universities and academicians, and build a core of very competent Jain Scholars.

To start with ALC has nominated their Vice-chairman, Dr. Nitin Shah, on the Board of Management of ISJS along with Dr. Shugan Jain as a member of ALC. Dr. Sulekh Jain, Chairman of ALC is already an adviser and guiding spirit of ISJS since its inception in 2005. This relationship is likely to build ISJS as an accredited institute of repute globally soon.

ISJS LOOKING FOR A DIRECTOR / CHIEF EXECUTIVE

ISJS invites applications for the position of Director / Chief Executive at Pune. The selected candidate will be responsible to actualize the Vision and Mission of ISJS and all other activities.

The candidate must have PhD in Philosophy or Religion with a major emphasis on Jain philosophy, history, literature, practices, way of life and their applications to enhance personal and social wellness from a reputed University in India or Abroad. Candidates with lesser experience will be considered for other academic positions.

ADMISSION OPEN FOR 2021 SUMMER PROGRAMS IN INDIA

ISJS, offers an excellent opportunity for overseas university students, faculty members, researchers as well as high school teachers to visit India and learn about Jain philosophy & way of life and the doctrine of Ahimsa (nonviolence). The following programs are available for 2021 summer:

POSITION OF BHAGWAN ADINATH PROFESSOR

The Department of Philosophy and Religion at the University of North Texas (UNT), Dallas, TX, USA invites applications for the position of Bhagwan Adinath Professor of Jain Studies. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor, with an expected starting date of Fall 2021.

PhD in Religious Studies or Comparative Religions and related fields is the minimum requirement. the candidate must have a publishing record consistent with university standards, and experience or preparedness to teach and mentor graduate students. The candidate must have some experience in teaching Jainism and Asian religions.

Responsibilities of the position include teaching undergraduate courses in Jainism and other Asian religions, and organizing a public event each semester in coordination with the Jain community of North Texas.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SCIENCE AND JAIN PHILOSOPHY

The Second International Conference on Science and Jain Philosophy (ICSJP) will be held on March 19 – 21, 2021. It is being organized by Florida International University’s Jain Studies Program under the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs and Jain Education and Research Foundation (JERF), Florida, USA.

The conference is co-sponsored by Mohini Jain Presidential Chair in Jain Studies, Religious Studies Department, University of California, Davis.

The last date of submission of abstract/proposal is December 31, 2020.

UPCOMING PUBLICATION OF ISJS

International School for Jain Studies in association with The Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute had organized a two days international seminar on “Traces of Śramaṇa Tradition (with special reference to Jainism): Prior to 650 BCE” on October 5th & 6th, 2019 at Navalveerayatan, Pune.


Now, ISJS is in the process to publish the proceeding of the seminar. This proceeding contains 13 selected papers presented in this seminar exploring the available archaeological, cultural, social and literary evidences to substantiate the existence of Jain tradition before 650 BCE.

ISJS-TRANSACTIONS (ONLINE RESEARCH JOURNAL)

The October-December 2020 issue of ‘ISJS-Transactions’ is in progress and will be available for the readers by the second week of January 2021.

Now, ISJS invites research papers for its upcoming issues. The journal is open for the scholars/researchers/faculties for their research papers on various aspects of Jainology, i.e. philosophy, culture, religion, history, archaeology, art & architecture, science, relevance today and many more.
