ADMISSION OPEN FOR 2019 SUMMER PROGRAMS IN INDIA

Through following programs ISJS offers an excellent proposal for overseas university students, staff and researchers as well as High school teachers to visit India in summer 2019 and learn the doctrine of Ahimsa (nonviolence) and Jainism to enhance ether overall wellness and knowledge.

  1. ISSJS.2019-4W (June 12–July 10, 2019): This four week program is designed to cater to the needs of undergraduate, graduate, degree holders, PhD Candidates, Professors and faculty in Religion, Philosophy, South Asian Studies and Anthropology and other related subjects (history, art, music, public health, bio-ethics, education, management etc.) who desire to learn about Jainism as a part of their higher education.
  2. ISSJS.2019-6W (June 12–July 21, 2019): This six week advanced program is designed for serious and motivated Graduate and PhD students, Post Doctoral scholars and full time teaching cum research faculty involved in religion, South Asian religions or studies and languages, anthropology, theology and allied subjects.
  3. ISSJS.2019-3W Prakrit Program (July 6–27, 2019): This three week new program design for serious scholars of Jainism, Buddhism and History of South Asian Religion with aim to make the participants understand Prakrit language and literature.
  4. ISSJS.2019-Teaching for Peace (July 9–30, 2019): This program is designed for teachers & educators who wish to integrate practical nonviolence into their lives, classrooms and schools.

VISIT BY SHRI P.S. SURANA, SHRI VINOD SURANA & SHRI NIRMAL KUMAR SETHI

Shri P.S. Surana and Shri Vinod Surana visited ISJS office on 18th February, 2019 and had meeting with Dr. Shugan C Jain, Chairman of ISJS. Both Shri P.S. Surana and Shri Vinod Surana are renowned International Lawyers from Chennai. Sh. Surana is the founder partner of Surana and Surana International Attorney. They both are one of the well-wishers of ISJS and take very keen interest in ISJS activities.

Shri Nirmal Kumar Sethi, President, Shri Bharatvarshiya Digamber Jain Mahasabha visited ISJS office and had meeting with Dr. Shugan C Jain, Chairman of ISJS on 23rd Feb, 2019 regarding different activities of ISJS. Shri Sethi ji is also a supporter of ISJS and regularly sends overseas participants for ISSJS program.

The scholars, willing to contribute their unpublished articles/research papers for ISJS-Transactions, may send it through email. Experts and scholars on Jain Studies and Indic religions are also encouraged to register themselves as reviewers of articles for the publication. MONTHLY LECTURE SERIES

The 38th monthly lecture was organized on 10th February, 2019 at Acharya Sushil Muni Ashram, Defence Colony, Delhi. Shri Arjun Jain, delivered talk on "Swadhyay Tapa". Greater significance of Swadhyay over puja and similar rituals was discussed in details.

SEMINAR / WORKSHOP / LECTURE

  1. Two Day National Seminar: As we had announced regarding a two day national seminar to be held on 27th–28th April, 2019 at Pune. Due to some unavoidable circumstances, the said seminar is being postponed for future dates (likely to the last week of July or first week of August, 2019). The new dates will be announced very soon. Further, we request to our invitees and other scholars to send their papers with greater emphasis on existence of Shraman tradition and Jainism prior to 900 BC based on literature of Indic religions and their narrative literature, archeological findings to date, history of India and socio-cultural mappings if possible.

EVENTS

  1. The 6th Foundation day of Jain Sikhshan Samraddhi was celebrated on 3rd Feb, 2019 at Pathways School, Sec-100, Noida. Swami Shri Ravinder Kirti ji from Jambudweep, Hastinapur graced the occasion with his pious blessings. On this occasion various representatives from Jain community were present. ISJS works very closely with their sociological studies and teachers' program.Click here for details.

  2. Special meeting with Mr. Ján Figel, European union special envoy, for the promotion of freedom of religion or belief, European Union, Brussels, Belgium, Ms. Friederike Tschampa, political counselor, Brussels Belgium, and Mr. Roshan Lyman, Attachè-Political Affairs, New Delhi was organized by Shri Bharatvarshiya Digamber Jain Mahasabha on 9th Feb, 2019 at their office. Mr. Anil Patni addresses the welcome speech and Mr. Nirmal Jain Sethi presented introduction of Mahasabha. Further Dr. Shugan C Jain delivered an interesting talk on “Introduction to Jainism” including origin, basic principles, religious beliefs and practices, Jain monks and holy places, Jain scriptures and Jainism outside India. On this occasion Mr. A. K. Khanna, Dr. Akhilesh Jain, Dr. Sudha Jain and Dr. Vibha Jain also shared their views. Finally the concluding remark was presented by Mr. Ján Figel.
